The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana (ELCG) commissioned fifteen newly graduated Deaconesses at a special service held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Madina, following their graduation from the Lutheran Theological Seminary Ghana (LTSG).
The commissioning ceremony was filled with joy, song, and prayers as the Church formally sent out these women into their respective ministries. The theme of the day was drawn from Matthew 25:40—“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.”
The Deaconesses are trained to serve alongside pastors through teaching, visitation, spiritual care, and acts of mercy. Their duties may include counseling, leading prayer groups, organizing Sunday schools, and ministering to the poor and marginalized.
Speaking at the service, Rev. John Shadrack Donkoh, President of ELCG, reminded the Church that ministry can be challenging and lonely, but every act of love is service to Christ. “Keep the servant’s heart, keep the servant’s love, and above all, keep the Servant—Jesus Christ.”
This commissioning represents not just the end of academic preparation, but the beginning of active service in the Lord’s vineyard. The Church prays for strength, wisdom, and grace for these women as they step into their calling.
