Ascension! Ascension! Ascension! A Reminder Of The Ascension Of Jesus

Introduction

This Day Thursday, Christians Around The World Are Observing The Holy And Often Overlooked Event In The Church Calendar: The Ascension Of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Malady

Sadly, For Many, This Profound Celebration Has Faded Into The Background Of Christian Memory. Yet The Ascension Is Not Merely The Conclusion Of Jesus’ Earthly Ministry—It Is The Glorious Continuation Of His Saving Work And The Assurance Of Our Heavenly Hope.

Reflection

Forty Days After His Resurrection, Jesus Ascended Into Heaven In The Presence Of His Disciples (Acts 1:9-11). This Moment Was Not Only A Divine Homecoming—It Was A Royal Enthronement. Christ, Who Had Humbled Himself By Taking On Human Flesh And Bearing The Sins Of The World On The Cross, Was Now Exalted, Seated At The Right Hand Of The Father, Reigning Over Heaven And Earth.

Gospel

The Ascension Of Jesus Is A Powerful Declaration That He Is Alive, That His Work Is Complete, And That He Now Intercedes For Us As Our Great High Priest. It Is A Reminder That Jesus Has Gone Ahead Of Us—Not To Abandon Us, But To Prepare A Place For Us (John 14:2-3). Where He Is, We Too Shall Be. Through His Ascension, Jesus Secured Our Place In The Eternal Presence Of God, And His Enthronement Assures Us That All Authority In Heaven And On Earth Belongs To Him.

Promise

The Promises Of God, Spoken Long Ago Through The Prophets, Find Their Fulfillment In Jesus. In The Old Testament, God Pledged To Bring His People Into A Land Of Peace And Rest. Under Joshua (A Name That Shares Its Root With “Jesus”), The Israelites Entered The Promised Land—A Foretaste Of A Greater Promise Yet To Come. In The New Testament, Jesus, Our True And Greater Joshua, Leads Us Not Into An Earthly Land, But Into The Eternal Kingdom Of God. He Is The Fulfillment Of Every Covenant And The Embodiment Of Every Promise.

Gospel Application

By His Death And Resurrection, Jesus Reconciled Us To The Father. By His Ascension, He Lifts Our Eyes—And Our Hearts—Heavenward. Through Our Baptism, We Are United With Christ In His Death, Resurrection, And Yes, In His Ascension. Even Now, We Are Seated With Him In The Heavenly Places (Ephesians 2:6). Spiritually, We Already Belong To The Kingdom; Physically, We Await The Day When Our Transformed Bodies Will Share Fully In That Glory.

Hope

This Heavenly Hope Brings Purpose And Meaning To Our Earthly Lives. Though We Face Trials, Suffering, And The Reality Of Death, We Do So With The Unshakable Confidence That These Are Not The End Of Our Story. Our Bodies, Like Christ’s, Will Be Raised And Glorified.

Application

Therefore, How We Live In These Bodies Now Is Not Meaningless—It Is Part Of Our Worship. Yet We Must Remember: We Do Not Earn Heaven By Our Efforts.

Salvation

Salvation Is Not A Reward For The Righteous But A Gift For The Redeemed.

Gospel

Jesus Is The Way, The Truth, And The Life. Through Faith In Him, We Already Partake In His Forgiveness, His Righteousness, And His Peace.

Application

Our Lives Are Now Hidden With Christ In God (Col. 3:3). We Belong To Him—And So Our Lives Are No Longer Our Own, But Are To Be Lived In Gratitude And Devotion To The One Who Died And Rose Again For Us.

Beloved, The Ascension Is Not A Departure—It Is A Promise. Jesus Has Not Left Us; He Has Gone To Reign, To Intercede, And To Bring Us Home. Even As We Wait For The Fullness Of Heaven, We Are Already Citizens Of That Kingdom. We Live In The Tension Of The “Already And Not Yet,” Walking By Faith In The One Who Has Gone Before Us.

Conclusion

Let Us Then Remember, Proclaim, And Rejoice In The Ascension Of Our Lord. Let Us Lift Our Hearts To Heaven, Where Christ Is Seated. Let Us Live As Those Who Belong Not To This World, But To The World To Come.

Jesus Is Our Home. Jesus Is Our Peace. Jesus Is Our Eternal Rest. In Him, We Are Safe—Now And Forever. Amen

Blessed Ascension Day! Rejoice In Him!
