The foolishness of the world

Introduction

In the Bible, a “fool” is someone who has rejected or rebelled against God, rather than simply being ignorant or unwise. The Bible teaches that the fool says in their heart, “There is no God.”

The Reality

Calling someone a fool in anger or hatred is sinful, but pointing out that someone is being foolish because they are rejecting God is truthful and can be helpful. Human wisdom is often viewed as foolish by God, who deliberately made it so that the world would not come to know Him through human understanding.

Proclamation

The Church must boldly proclaim the truth of the gospel, which is the message that sets people free. This freedom comes from recognizing the bad news of sin and the good news that Jesus, the Savior, has come to free us from its grip. Reformation celebrates the truth of the gospel that frees us to live as followers of Christ, engaging in worship, service, and striving for proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. This freedom should be used not for selfish purposes, but for living according to God’s Word and loving others.

Malady

The Word of God is under attack, and there may come a time when true teachings of the Bible are scarce.

Gospel

Despite this, God’s Word will not fail and will accomplish its purpose, as Isaiah declared (Isaiah 5511).

Conclusion

Even in difficult times, God preserves faithful witnesses, as seen in the prophets who did not bow to false gods. The Reformation, by Martin Luther, emphasized that God’s Word endures forever (1Pet. 1:25), a truth that remains unshaken.
